The Chinese food they do is good quality and has an authenticity to it that I would recommend if you're in the mood for it. Unfortunately, it's not called "Coleridge Chinese", it's Coleridge Chippy - and the Chippy here seems to be more of an afterthought than the main focus of the business. Don't get me wrong, the chips are okay. I find them a bit pale and lifeless but I have had worse in the past and it is fairly cheap. They're really let down by the quality of their fish, though. It's probably the worst I've ever had. The ideal chippy battered fish has a fluffy texture, and a crispy batter. Coleridge Chippy fish has a greasy batter, holding in the slimiest fish I've ever bought. This happens because it's not fried at a high enough temperature. To compensate and cook it through, they have to leave it in the cooler oil for longer and that leads to the awful texture. I went in and complained once and the fellow took it very personally, telling me that I'm just being picky and "everyone else eats it". Well, if everyone else jumped off a bridge I wouldn't be joining them. Stick to the Chinese menu here and order your chippy somewhere else, you'll be happier for it.
Love this place, the staff are nice and friendly the portions are big and the food is great. My only complaint is that they can't do mushy peas properly but other than that this place is awesome
Got the s&p platter. It was a pretty awful greasy affair and possibly the worst chicken I've eaten this decade. Shame as they're nice people
